The Little Bonsai That Could

This is a picture of my first bonsai tree. Its name is Crown Of Thorns or Christs Flower.
In this picture, I have only had the bonsai for maybe 3 days.
Doesn’t look really good, does it?
It gets better trust me.

Once outside, this beauty took off. I call her Hey Baby. She put on a display to behold. Her crown canopy was perfectly shaped, and completely covered with pale yellow to cream colored flowers with a bright yellow center. This picture shows all of the new growth struggling to beat the guy next to him to the sunlight. 😉

This was by mid summer. She had been at her “forever home” for about two months when I decided I needed or very badly “wanted to” see if I could train it with wire.
YouTube was a tremendous help as far as wire gauge and type.
When the wire arrived I was afraid to use it, I had to start somewhere. But where?
After wiring each branch to go outwards I use twine to pull the branches down to almost the breaking point.
Aren’t her blossoms beautiful?

I let her be out in the backyard until Fall started approaching. This is a picture of the wire I used to train her to go my way.
This plant will emit a white milky substance when its skin is breached anywhere. Even the leaves will weep when broken or pinched.
The blossoms and stems of the blossom are sticky and annoying. But the plant has so much more to offer through its beauty.
She has been indoor for about a month now. When she first came in she dropped all flowers. I worried!
So I kept watering her, even when she didn’t need it. She sits in the kitchen window looking out waiting for spring so she can go outside and become rejuvenated again.
This is a work in progress forever. I’m truly stuck as to what to do next. Sooooo…, I think I can handle doing one branch at a time. I want to make this plant get fuller, so should I cut the new growth on just one branch and see what happens? This way I can fix things if it goes bad.
I”ll keep you posted on her progress and my creativity, which is not very over the top.
Thanks for reading!
